Tell us about NU Media.
Ada Hu: NU Media is a joint venture between Universal Processing and NXT Factor. It was founded by my partner, Eva Jiang, and I back in 2019. NU Media’s purpose is to help companies broadcast their services. COVID-19 has made even the most successful companies in need of more updated advertising resources, which NU Media supplies. We strive to provide the highest level of digital media services. Our expertise helps businesses grow and prosper. In these times especially, marketing services are so important to businesses everywhere.
How did you promote your company in the early days?
Ada Hu: Eva and I founded the company with our own attributes in mind. We were persistent so our company was too. We didn’t give up so neither did NU Media. When we began promoting our company, we heard a lot of no’s. Being a numbers game, the no’s only meant that we were one pitch closer to a yes. Our attitude towards success promoted our company. We believed in NU Media and our work so much that our clients believed in NU Media, too. After we showed them what our team was able to accomplish, the no’s were less frequent and our business grew.
How have you been able to grow your business?
Ada Hu: The NU Media team is the reason why we have grown so much. The business grows stronger because of the teamwork that is put into it. Our four departments are Marketing, PR, Digital Design and Website Development. Together, we collaborate on projects and succeed as a community. NU Media grows as our departments grow and our individual teammates flourish.

Teach us something new…
Ada Hu: Preparation is key. Understand their market. It’s said so often but rarely understood: know your client. If you go in anticipating the potential client’s questions then you already have their trust. Being good at talking can only get you so far. If the client produces products, then find out everything you can about the different products as well as the company business model. Find a way to connect with the client and pique their interest with your understanding. You know their business so you know how they succeed. With this, you also know their weak points and the areas that you know you can help them in.
What do you think you do better than most people? How are you able to do it?
Ada Hu: A High IQ is not what makes a successful business owner. Grit and determination are the most important attributes that I have. I never go into a meeting assuming that they think a certain way about me. The only thing that I can control is how they view NU Media through my actions. I go into every meeting, no matter how big the client, knowing what they need and ready to prove that I can help them accomplish it. My favorite color is “off white” because every meeting with a potential client is a blank slate that is tinted with opportunity.
What drives you to keep growing NU Media?
Ada Hu: Can you honestly say that you love your job? If you love what you do, isn’t it so much easier to go to work every day and develop your company? Every day at work is fulfilling. It’s not always easy, and nothing is ever what it seems upon initial inspection, but I love it. I am surrounded by strong women who strive to be better everyday and I am truly grateful for that. Teamwork and research help grow a business. With the girls at NU Media, we bring the term girlboss to a whole new level. Unintentionally done, we are proud of the fact that the entire New York City office is all women. Efficient and bustling, the work produced reflects the positive atmosphere and happy team.
How do people usually react when you tell them that you run your own company?
Ada Hu: People usually assume that I am much older. As someone who has started exploring business opportunities at the age of 17, I always knew that I wanted to help people and contribute to society. What we do at NU Media is exactly that! We provide affordable marketing services to small and medium sized businesses that would like our help in any or all of our departments. As a 23 year old woman, people are usually surprised that I run NU Media. Sometimes, they don’t believe that I’m behind this successful firm, but the results we get don’t lie. As I frequently say, “the sky is the limit.”
As a young female leader of a successful company, have you ever been misidentified as anything less than your actual position?
Ada Hu: Oftentimes, when I walk into a business meeting, they see my appearance and immediately look behind me, expecting someone else. I don’t know what they expect, but the most important thing for me to do is go in and show them that I can provide what their business needs. Dedication, consistency, and grit are how we measure success. Our appearance and how we identify plays no part in the success.

Where do you see yourself and your product, company, or brand in the next couple of years? What is your dream?
Ada Hu: The digital age is only expanding. More and more brick-and-mortar stores will continue to create and perfect their digital presence. We saw a huge increase in this during the pandemic. Now, people realize how necessary it is for customers to access products and services online. We are here to help ease businesses into this digital transition! We make and post educational videos for all to watch on our Instagram page. Those will only continue to increase in number, so people can learn about the expanding digital market.
