In times of hardship, business owners must continue to rise and provide a valuable experience for their customers. Those who can do this will continue to persevere, regardless of background or industry.
Business owner Adam Jacobs is one of these people.
Adam Jacobs is the incredibly busy Managing Director of Bubblegum Casting and Hunter Talent. He works with some of Australia’s biggest brands, media properties, and agencies to secure talented children to work in television, film, and modelling roles. They’ve recently launched an office in LA too.
Here’s what Adam has to say about his successes and lessons learned.
Lessons Learned as a Business Owner During the Pandemic
My name is Adam Jacobs, and I’m a business owner who has been managing three brands during COVID-19. I want to share with you what I’ve learned over the course of this pandemic and how crises can be an opportunity for rebirth.
In the face of the global pandemic, there are some of the major lessons I’ve learned in terms of my career. Here’s my experience as it applies to three of the major brands I’ve managed throughout this time.
Bubblegum Casting and Hunter Talent
As Managing Director of Bubblegum Casting, I help the brightest child talent in Australia on their journey toward stardom. Bubblegum Casting is the longest-running agency specialising in babies, children, and teen talent in Australia. This has been one of the most rewarding jobs in my career. I took over the company in 2018, and in that time we have quadrupled our revenue and regained our top tier status.
In 2019 we created the adult agency, Hunter Talent, which is the fastest-growing agency in Australia. We continue to work to ensure that this talent gets the opportunity to shine on camera.
One thing these talented people have in common? Grit. The road to stardom isn’t easy, and it’s faced with rejection. It’s those who can continue to move forward and believe in their talents who will continue to rise.
There are no guarantees in the industry, and it takes time for some to get their opportunity to shine. Our talent continues to persevere, and I’m honoured to be able to help them get their chance in from of the spotlight.
The ICONIC
As co-founder and managing director of The ICONIC, Australia’s biggest fashion retailer online, I’ve learned one of my greatest lessons. Success truly lies in your belief in yourself. I believed that I could create a better shopping experience, one that would rival traditional bricks-and-mortar stores.
Little did I know, a day would come where people would not be able to shop in person. The ICONIC and the online shopping experience, in general, have allowed people to keep a sense of normalcy in these unpredictable times.
Hatch
I co-founded Hatch as a means for University students to get paid for meaningful work, while still in school. With the start of the pandemic, we knew there was more work to be done.
We created a COVID-19 labour exchange in an effort to help workers who were affected by the pandemic. With so many businesses shutting their doors, many people were out of jobs. Hatch was established to help.
Hatch enables Australian businesses to quickly find and hire workers that were out of work due to the pandemic. The beauty in this is it also enables people to acquire new skills, and perhaps find their calling… it’s possible that this is something they may not have previously considered.
Finding Success as a Business Owner
I know that every single business owner is capable of finding success, even during the direst of times. However, it’s important to surround yourself with a team of people who value the business as much as you do. A solid team is a foundation for success, one person cannot carry this alone.
A successful business leader must also be agile, and able to walk through all the stages of growth, including the struggle. What this comes down to, ultimately, is determination and grit. It won’t always be easy. However, those who can persevere will continue to push forward. That in itself is a success.
In times like these, we see how important grit is. We all have talents that should be shared with the world. Make a plan, take action, and don’t let rejection hold you back. Don’t shrink in the face of adversity…I encourage you to grow.
Keep moving onwards, and upwards, always.
