From studying ballet at Australia’s Royal Academy of Dance at the age of nine to the International Dance Academy of Paris in contemporary and modern jazz, Audie B has earned her place on the world stage.
Her time as a professional resident dancer for Ponant Cruise Lines both contributed to her penchant for globe-trotting and enthusiasm for building communities of Girl Bosses. As Crew Association Committee President, Audie B discovered the potential she had to empower her fellow women on-board in the same way the job empowered her.

What does being a GirlBoss mean to you?
Audie B: [Being a] Girl Boss is about being fierce, being independent, authentic, and focusing on yourself as a woman. Many women look to others for validation on who they should be [and] how they should act, when in fact it’s about focusing and owning who you are as a person and a woman.
Why do you think the term Girl Boss can sometimes be seen as problematic?
Audie B: Terms and words are/can be overused; however, this can be interpreted in several ways. [We should simultaneously keep in mind that] it also reflects positivity, especially in these times, taking ownership.
How do you go about actively turning this term on its head?
Audie B: Through rap, dance, and the artistic journey that I am on, I can say that I have always tried to put forward this concept in an empowering way, and [perhaps manifesting it as a] way of life. Through rap, today I am able to reach out to other women, but also men too, on experiences in life, getting back up off your feet, being able to seize opportunities, and never giving up. The daily hustle and grind, as they say, is essential to reaching those goals and dreams and feeling empowered. I want women to be able to relate to my songs and have this positive attitude on who they are, high self-esteem, and especially being in harmony with the person they want to be.
How do you manifest empowerment in your daily life?
Audie B: Empowerment for me comes through introspection – looking within to feel happy, content, and at ease in many situations – and about having the confidence to be able to be and love yourself. It’s not about being in control of every situation or being worried about having to make the right choices and decisions every time, but more about being focused and determined. About ownership, for the person, you are and not being afraid to share that with the world. Accept how you feel and be compassionate with yourself.
