Gloria Williams Turned Oprah's Tweet Into Footnanny

Nearly 20 years pedicuring Oprah Winfrey taught her what luxury foot care should feel like. One tweet in 2012 turned that knowledge into a company now landing in salons nationwide.

Gloria Williams didn’t set out to build a beauty brand. She set out to be very, very good at pedicures. Trained as a nail technician and reflexologist in Chicago, she built her name the slow way — client by client, blending her own foot creams and soaking salts because nothing on a shelf did what she wanted them to do. That reputation eventually put her in front of the city’s most famous resident, and for close to 20 years, Williams worked as Oprah Winfrey’s personal pedicurist.

The business, as a business, started with a tweet. In 2012, Oprah posted about Williams’ homemade foot cream, and the response was immediate: thousands of requests from people who had never met Williams and just wanted what Oprah had. Small Business Trends and American Salon both point to that single post as the moment Williams stopped being a service provider with a side product and started being a founder with a supply-chain problem. She named the line Footnanny, packaged it, and started filling orders.

What followed was the kind of validation most beauty founders spend a career chasing. Footnanny landed on Oprah’s Favorite Things list ten times by 2023, struck a distribution deal with Costco in 2018, and in 2021 opened its first standalone spa at the Rodeo Collection in Beverly Hills — with Oprah as its first client. Along the way, the client list grew well beyond Oprah, and Williams became a member of the Forbes Business Council.

Fourteen years after that first tweet, Footnanny is still a small operation scaling a big ambition. In a December 2025 announcement of its 2026 expansion plans, Williams said AI tools were letting her small team manage more without losing the brand’s standards: “AI assistance allows us to manage this expansion efficiently while maintaining our standards.” That expansion includes Footnanny Pets, a line launching in March 2026 aimed at the brand’s core customers — many of them over 50 — and their animals. In June, Footnanny announced a strategic partnership with JW Sales & Associates to place its Footnanny4 Collection in beauty distributors and salons nationwide, with a booking app in the works to help customers find authorized Footnanny treatments wherever they are.

Williams’ path is a reminder that a founder story doesn’t need a pitch deck to be real: she spent two decades perfecting a craft before a single tweet turned it into a company, and she’s still building it one retail partnership at a time.
