“Our biggest breakthroughs come from things that don’t work,” says Welsh businessman David Sullivan.
Chartered accountant, entrepreneur and business coach Simon Kallu wholeheartedly agrees with this statement. “If you are finding things difficult,” he says, “you can use that struggle to find the solution.”
It took Simon time to find his calling, but once he did, he never looked back. Today, his accountancy firm GrowFactor is a seven-figure business that has helped over 500 experts to achieve financial freedom. Now, he is keen to use his fifteen years of experience to pass on his knowledge to budding coaches and entrepreneurs.
Embrace Wrong Turns
Entrepreneurship was not Simon Kallu’s original plan. The chartered accountant envisaged a corporate career for himself, graduating top of his cohort at professional services firm KPMG. However, in every single one of his corporate jobs, the successful executive found himself unstimulated and uninspired.
“I wasn’t built to climb the corporate, social ladder, and I really didn’t like being told what to do!” the entrepreneur candidly admits in his book, Unleash Your Business Potential. “Like so many of you, I clock-watched all day and took no pleasure in being just another small cog in someone else’s big wheel.”
Simon’s ‘lightbulb moment’ came when he overheard his wife on the phone to her accountant, struggling to obtain an answer to a simple question about her income. Simon Kallu thus founded GrowFactor to help people like his wife master their finances, fulfill their business potential, and change their view of the accounting industry in the process.
Play The Long Game
No matter how good the idea, building a business from the ground up is a difficult task. After all, as Simon reminds us, it took Steve Jobs twenty years to become a billionaire, and six years for Google to get off the ground and go public. It took Simon Kallu himself ten years to realise the full potential of his accounting firm GrowFactor.
“Most people overestimate what they can achieve in one year, and massively underestimate what they can achieve in 10,” Simon explains. “Don’t be afraid to have ambition and big targets, but it’s important to remember that success doesn’t often occur overnight. When you start a business, you have to be prepared to play the long game before you can eventually reap the results of your hard work.”
“Successful people do the early mornings and the late nights,” says Simon Kallu. “They put the work in and have the determination, commitment, courage and consistency needed to succeed.”
The entrepreneur sets himself goals and works tirelessly to achieve them every single day. Only through hard work, motivation and determination was he able to get where he is today, living out his idea of success and financially free.
Invest In Yourself
As well as the will to grind, founding your own business requires seeking advice, mentorship, and investing in the right tools to succeed.
Simon is acutely aware of this. He reads every single day to learn new skills, regularly invests in tools such as PR and Marketing to grow his business, and always seeks the best people to partner with. Before he himself became a business coach, he sought advice from mentors and got coached by people he admired.
Now, the entrepreneur is passionate about using his years of experience, knowledge and business acumen to give back and help like-minded individuals to succeed. GrowFactor is focused on equipping Experts and Coaches with the right tools and knowledge to master their finances, grow their revenue and fulfill their business potential.
